PCCC's professional standards and ethical commitments guide everything we do.
PCCC adheres to the LISA (Large Installation System Administration) Code of Ethics. This code was developed by the USENIX Association and represents the professional and ethical standards that guide our work as technology consultants and administrators.
I will maintain professional conduct in the workplace and will not allow personal feelings or beliefs to cause me to treat people disrespectfully. I will act in the best interest of my users, clients, and communities.
I will be honest in my professional dealings and will seek to be accurate and complete in reporting information about systems and services I provide or maintain. When performing evaluations of products, I will disclose any conflicts of interest and will not allow personal considerations to influence my reporting.
I will access private information on computer systems only when it is necessary in the course of my technical duties. I will maintain and protect the confidentiality of any information to which I may have access, regardless of the method by which I came to have access to it.
I will educate myself and others about relevant laws, regulations, and policies regarding the use of computer systems. I will comply with such laws, regulations, and policies, unless there is a compelling ethical reason not to do so.
I will communicate with management, users, and others by keeping them informed of the systems, services, and resources under my control or administration, to the degree that I am able. I will explain computer systems and their limitations honestly and clearly to users.
I will strive to ensure the integrity, reliability, and availability of the systems for which I am responsible. I will design and maintain each system in a manner that will be accessible, productive, and safe for my users, to the best of my ability.
I will continue to update and expand my technical knowledge and will share my knowledge and experience with others. I acknowledge that knowledge is not a commodity to be hoarded but a resource to be shared freely for the benefit of the community.
I will strive to build and maintain a safe, healthy, and productive workplace. I will do my best to make computer resources available to all who need them, and I will be sensitive to access limitations that may affect people with disabilities.
I will report significant system security vulnerabilities. I will not accept bribes or other inappropriate compensation. I will not allow personal or financial interests to influence my professional judgment. I will consider the safety, privacy, and security of others when making decisions about computer systems and services.
